Wedgwood & Co. was an English pottery business operating in Tunstall, Staffordshire, entirely separate from the more famous Josiah Wedgwood firm. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, they produced vast quantities of transfer-printed tableware for everyday dining. Their factory used traditional earthenware bodies decorated with popular traditional motifs applied through copperplate printing.
Working class and middle-class households used these durable ceramic pieces daily for family meals and breakfast services. They were set out on dining tables in homes across Britain and exported in large numbers around the world. As modern kitchenware materials like stainless steel and plastic became common, traditional ceramic dinnerware of this kind gradually fell out of regular daily use.
