1986 White House Plate Collection John Quincy Adams

The White House China Plate Collection was produced by Woodmere China during the 1980s as an authorized series of commemorative dessert plates. Each piece in the collection was meticulously re-created from historical china patterns used during various presidential administrations throughout American history.

Woodmere China, located in New Castle, Pennsylvania, specialized in fine porcelain and partnered with historical associations to create these limited edition decorative sets. These plates were issued with individual serial numbers to appeal to collectors of presidential memorabilia and decorative ceramics during the late twentieth century.

President John Quincy Adams commissioned a service of French porcelain during his administration, turning away from domestic manufacturers to acquire pieces suited for formal state banquets. The original French service featured classic neoclassical motifs, including delicate gilt scrollwork, star accents, and distinctive pink and blue panels that reflected the refined French taste of the early nineteenth century. These historical services became legendary milestones of executive tableware, embodying the diplomatic elegance of the young American republic.

In the late twentieth century, the Danbury Mint partnered with manufacturers like Woodmere to produce authorized replicas of these historic White House services for collectors. Skilled artisans carefully recreated the intricate hand-gilded borders and neoclassical medallions to mirror the museum-grade originals used by past presidents. These collector editions offered enthusiasts a tangible connection to presidential history, bridging early American statecraft and modern commemorative craftsmanship.
