The historical region of Silesia, formerly part of Germany and now split between Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic, became a prominent center for European porcelain production during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Numerous independent factories flourished in towns like Altwasser and Szczawienko, taking advantage of rich local deposits of kaolin and clay. These manufacturers produced everything from fine tableware to ornate decorative cabinet plates, often exporting vast quantities to markets across Europe and the United States.

Floral motifs, particularly delicate arrangements of lilacs and roses, were immensely popular decorative choices for decorative plates during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. Factories frequently utilized transfer-printing techniques combined with hand-applied gilding on heavily molded, embossed blanks to achieve an elegant, luxurious aesthetic at an affordable price point.
