The distinctive blue patterns were applied using copperplate transfer printing, a technique that allowed for precise and repeatable designs across thousands of identical vessels.

Families used these saucers daily during morning and afternoon tea in homes across the British Empire and beyond. Over time, as dishwashers became common and dining habits shifted toward casual mugs, large matched sets of patterned saucers fell out of everyday use.
